Job summary

BAE Systems in Glasgow, Govan and Scotstoun sites is seeking a Fabricator - Plater to join our onsite team. You will interpret drawings, prepare materials, and work on ship structures from basic assemblies to watertight components, tacked and welded to precise standards.

The role requires hands-on fabrication experience, tack welding skills, and proficiency with oxy-fuel and plasma cutting, all while maintaining SHE compliance and working safely at height or in confined spaces.

Qualifications

• Modern Apprenticeship certificate (Trade Papers) and relevant mechanical qualifications are required.
• Up‑to‑date fabrication knowledge and hands‑on experience in construction or manufacturing.
• Ability to complete tack welding to safety and quality standards.
• Confident operation of oxy‑fuel and/or plasma cutting equipment.
• Adherence to SHE principles and risk‑assessment requirements.
• Experience working safely in confined spaces or at height, with relevant safety certifications.

Responsibilities

• Interpreting engineering drawings and preparing materials using oxy-fuel cutting and hand grinding.
• Assembling ship structures, ensuring all components are accurately fitted and tack-welded.
• Fabricating essential ship items such as seats, ladders, and watertight doors.
• Forming materials using machine tools, including rolling and cutting equipment.
