Contract: Fixed Term (1 year), Full-Time Term Time Only

About our School

Easthorpe School is an independent specialist provision serving children and young people in the East Midlands who live with their families, foster carers or in residential children’s homes.

The school opened its doors in November, and we are expanding to support increased pupil numbers in the Lower School (years). Class sizes are small, supported by qualified teachers and teaching assistants.

Our school caters to pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and various diagnoses including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, FASD, Sensory Processing Disorder, Attachment needs, and mild/moderate learning needs.

This role offers experienced teaching assistants an opportunity to contribute to our new provision’s growth and development, enriching pupils’ lives. It also allows for skill development in areas like food hygiene, Forest School, sports, therapy, and emotional literacy.

Role responsibilities
  • Mentoring and supporting one pupil or small groups (up to six pupils)
  • Supporting classroom teachers during lessons
  • Reporting on pupils’ progress and liaising with staff to meet pupils’ needs
  • Supervising pupils during non-classroom times, including extracurricular activities and trips
  • Assisting with lesson planning and classroom preparation
  • Setting work and marking as appropriate
  • Building positive relationships with pupils to promote interaction and learning
Requirements
  • Strong educational background, ideally to A-level, with GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English and Mathematics, and good IT skills
  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or similar role
  • Experience working with SEMH pupils in educational settings
  • Confidence to take on additional responsibilities in areas like Food Hygiene, Forest School, Lunchtimes, or Yoga
  • Experience in behaviour management techniques
  • Commitment to professional development and willingness to learn
  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check prior to starting
