Job summary

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a chemotherapy nurse with a keen interest in oncology to provide anti-cancer therapy and supportive care. You will administer treatments, monitor patients, and work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care.

Cannulation is an advantageous skill and ongoing professional development is encouraged. Current adult-branch NMC registration is required, with at least one year post-qualification experience and motivation to undertake

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse, adult branch, live on the NMC register.
• Evidence of continued personal development is desirable.
• Motivation to undertake a recognised post-registration oncology or chemotherapy course.

Responsibilities

• Administer systemic anti-cancer therapy by a range of routes, safely and within own skill set.
• Administer supportive treatments such as blood transfusions, IV fluids, magnesium, immunoglobulins and iron infusions.
• Carry out therapeutic venesection, providing all care and supervision required.
• Assess, plan and evaluate the needs of individual patients and families receiving supportive therapies.
• Know treatment regimens and side effects, manage complications, and ensure investigations and documentation are done before treatment.
• Perform cannulation, venepuncture, central venous catheter care and venous access assessment.
• Work in the multidisciplinary team and give specialist clinical knowledge to patients and carers.
