Job summary

Ascension Island Government (AIG) is seeking a Marine Mechanic to maintain and repair marine engines and outboard motors, including Sea Rescue craft. The role includes supporting Coxswain duties and undergoing training as needed.

You will work across marine engines, conduct diagnostic testing, and participate in ongoing maintenance schedules while complying with health and safety standards in outdoor marine environments.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years’ experience as a mechanic, working with marine engines and outboard motors.
• Sound knowledge of mechanical diesel and petrol engines (marine/outboard).
• Willingness to progress toward NVQ Level 3 Mechanics or be deemed competent by experience.
• Willingness to support Coxswain duties and undertake related training.
• Valid class A–J4 driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair marine engines and outboard motors, including Sea Rescue craft.
• Perform electrical fault finding using diagnostic equipment.
• Implement and follow a service/maintenance schedule for marine craft engines.
