We are seeking an experienced Materials & Corrosion Engineer to support the design, fabrication, and lifecycle integrity of offshore structures across the offshore wind sector. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong expertise in structural materials, corrosion protection, fabrication processes, welding specifications, and quality assurance for offshore assets.

Responsibilities

Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will provide specialist input throughout the project lifecycle, from concept and FEED through detailed design, fabrication, installation, and operations.

Materials Engineering
  • Provide specialist advice on the selection and specification of structural steels and associated materials for offshore structures.
  • Develop material specifications for primary and secondary steel components, including foundations, offshore substations, and ancillary structures.
  • Review material certification and ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Support material procurement activities and supplier qualification processes.
Corrosion Engineering
  • Develop corrosion protection philosophies for offshore structures.
  • Specify and review coating systems, thermal spray aluminium (TSA), galvanizing systems, and corrosion protection strategies.
  • Assess corrosion risks throughout fabrication, transportation, installation, and operational phases.
  • Support cathodic protection design and interface with specialist CP contractors and consultants.
  • Provide lifecycle integrity assessments and recommendations for inspection and maintenance planning.
Fabrication & Welding
  • Develop and review welding specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), welding qualification requirements, and fabrication specifications.
  • Create Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Review fabrication methodologies and assess manufacturability of structural designs.
  • Provide technical support on welding‑related issues, repairs, and non‑conformance assessments.
  • Support resolution of fabrication queries from yards and contractors.
  • Review NDT requirements and weld acceptance criteria.
Quality Assurance & Technical Governance
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards including DNV, ISO, EN and AWS requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, and fabrication readiness assessments.
  • Support audits of fabricators, coating contractors, and material suppliers.
  • Provide technical approval of materials and corrosion‑related deliverables.
Project Support & Stakeholder Management
  • Interface with structural, geotechnical, installation, and asset integrity teams.
  • Provide technical support during fabrication, transportation, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Support contractor management, technical bid evaluations, and supplier engagement.
  • Contribute to project risk assessments and lessons learned initiatives.
About You
Essential Experience
  • Degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Corrosion Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Significant experience in offshore wind, offshore oil and gas, marine, or heavy industrial projects.
  • Strong knowledge of offshore structural materials and fabrication processes.
  • Experience developing and reviewing welding and fabrication specifications.
  • Experience with coating systems, corrosion mitigation, and asset integrity management.
  • Understanding of fabrication yard practices and quality control requirements.
Technical Expertise
  • Structural steels and material selection.
  • Welding processes and qualifications.
  • Fatigue‑sensitive welded structures.
  • Coating inspection and specification.
  • Thermal spray aluminium (TSA) systems.
  • Cathodic protection systems.
  • Corrosion risk assessment.
  • NDT techniques and acceptance standards.
  • Fabrication quality assurance and surveillance.
  • Offshore transportation and installation considerations.
Professional Skills
  • Strong technical report writing and specification development skills.
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Proactive problem‑solving approach and strong attention to detail.
  • Chartered Engineer status, or working towards chartership, preferred.
