Norton Rose Fulbright in Newcastle is seeking a Risk and Compliance Specialist to support the Client Matter Intake process for the EMEAPAC region. You will carry out conflict searches, perform full risk analysis, and liaise with partners, associates and other member firms to keep stakeholders informed.

The role requires at least 1 year of experience in a business, legal or professional services setting, strong research skills, and meticulous attention to detail to ensure AML and SRA compliance

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of experience in a business, legal, or professional services firm.
  • Interest in risk and compliance and knowledge of commercial, political and risk issues.
  • Excellent computer skills and ability to switch between databases and online tools.
  • Strong research aptitude and ability to use online research tools.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake conflict searches, analyse reports and escalate potential issues for resolution.
  • Take ownership of new business intake matters and perform full risk analysis, communicating progress to stakeholders.
  • Ensure AML directives and SRA Code of Conduct are adhered to and keep up with regulatory changes.

The Role

The role will be based in Newcastle and report to the Client Matter Intake (CMI Lead).

The team screens new business acceptance for the Firm’s EMEAPAC region for a variety of risks including Legal, Contractual and Commercial Conflicts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake conflict searches, analysing reports, ***escalate potential issues for resolution to escalation points.***
  • Take ownership of new business intake matters, carrying out the full risk analysis and liaise with the various stakeholders to the matter, including partners, associates, other Member Firms and communicate the progress of the matter at all stages to the interested parties.
  • Ensure that the regulations (such as AML Directives, SRA Code of Conduct) are adhered to within the Firm and keep up to changes in the legal and regulatory landscape.
  • Accurate documentation of any analysis and issues that require navigation.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 1 years’ experience working in a business, legal or related professional services firm.
  • Have an interest in Risk and Compliance with a key interest in developing knowledge of the commercial, political and risk issues affecting our business.
  • Excellent Computer skills with an ability to switch between different database interfaces and online tools.
  • Excellent aptitude for research and familiarity with online research tools.
  • Ability to critically evaluate a number of different sources, identifying the key risk issues.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise different work streams.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Accuracy and an eye for detail.
  • Demonstrate exceptional ability to interpret and analyse complex datasets in alignment with regulatory frameworks, internal policies, and risk management principles.
  • Apply critical thinking to identify trends, inconsistencies, and compliance gaps.
  • Implement recommendations that support adherence to governance standards.
  • Identify gaps in necessary information to complete a check and appropriately tailor requests for further information.
  • Ability to work under pressure with support.
  • Show aptitude to work on increasingly complex checks
  • Develop a working knowledge of other Regions professional rules.
  • Self-driven individual.
