Job description

Position: Ocean Freight Operator
Location: Basildon
Hours: Monday - Friday 09:00 - 17:30
Salary: 33,000 - 37,000 (DOE)

We are recruiting for an Ocean Freight Export Operator to join our client's expanding team.

The ideal candidate will specialise in all things ocean freight, from start to finish.

Your key responsibilities as Ocean Freight Operator:

1. Handling FCL and LCL exports from origin, on an end-to-end basis
2. Booking in jobs on the in-house system
3. Making bookings with shipping lines & submit provisional DGN's
4. Provide freight rates, quotes and pricing solutions for customers
5. Liaise with overseas agents, shipping lines and various carriers
6. Track and update shipment statuses in the company's system and provide regular updates to clients
7. Load planning
8. Coordinate tasks on the shipments to meet all customer SOP requirements: booking approvals, processing pre-alerts, governmental filings, executing delivery, ensuring proper invoicing, etc.
9. Ensure compliance with export regulations and trade compliance laws
10. Liaise with customers and sales team to ensure we maximise efficiency
11. Developing good working relationships with shipping lines, overseas agents, hauliers and our other branches
12. File closing

Requirements:

1. End to end Ocean Freight Operations knowledge is ESSENTIAL
2. Experience working with a UK based freight forwarder
3. Working knowledge of the International freight forwarding industry.
4. Strong customs knowledge
5. Be able to communicate effectively with clients, suppliers and your wider team
6. Have a keen attention to detail
7. Develop trust and respect from colleagues & clients
8. Identify problems early & respond in a timely fashion
9. A proactive and professional persona
