Occupational Health Nurse

We are welcoming applications for the role of Occupational Health Nurse with Dorset Police based at the following location(s): Police Headquarters, Winfrith, Dorset

Salary:Nursing Grade Band 6, based on 37 hours per week, less than 2 years experience £36,840, 2-5 years £28,879, over 5 years £44,362, plus a Market Supplement.

Please note that the above salary is based on working 37 hours per week. If this role is part-time or you are appointed on a part-time basis your salary will be prorated to reflect this. Exceptions to starting salary may apply if you are an existing Devon & Cornwall or Dorset Police Staff employee substantively posted to a role at the same Scale.

Type of employment: Permanent

Type of working arrangement: Static-Worker - A Static-Worker has little or no opportunity to work remotely as they need to carry out their work at a specific force premises, this could be for a number of reasons including the location of equipment.

Hours per week: this role is 37 hours per week. However, we welcome applications from individuals wishing to work on a part-time basis and we are willing to consider flexible working patterns subject to business need.

Allowances: This role attracts Market Supplement. For additional information on allowances please see our "allowances" page

Market Supplement: £4,205 (pro rata) per annum, this temporary market supplement has been approved and is applicable to this role to reflect determined market conditions. It is a separate pensionable supplement to the basic salary associated with this role and took effect from 17 June 2024 and will be reviewed annually until 17 June 2026.

About the role:

Registered Nurse required for an exciting training opportunity in the field of Occupational Health.

Devon and Cornwall and Dorset Policing Alliance are looking to recruit a Registered Nurse that has a keen interest in undertaking post graduate training in the field of Occupational Health. Occupational Health delivers high quality evidence based clinical advice to managers, staff and Officers of Dorset, Devon and Cornwall Police.

The successful candidate will be offered an extensive training programme covering the full remit of the Occupational Health role. This includes but is not limited to:

Health surveillance for safety critical roles Health screening Immunisation programmes (co-ordination and delivery) Venepuncture (co-ordination and delivery) Management referrals into OH (becoming a case manager) Advising managers and employees on fitness for work Understanding legislative and national implications that affect the work of OH After a period of consolidation the successful candidate will have the opportunity of funding to study for the MSc Specialist Community Public Health Nursing degree which is a post graduate qualification at the UWE. Once the study is complete there is eligibility to be on Part III of the NMC Specialist Register. The study would be part time over 3 years with mentorship and practice assessor support.

This is a unique time to join the Police. The Police Uplift programme has seen a new collaboration between the Government and Police working together to protect the public. This work is critical as policing landscapes evolve.

This presents the perfect opportunity for Occupational Health to make a real difference. Working regionally with the other Forces in the South West of England gives the opportunity for inter-Force support. This enables us to seamlessly support Officers and Staff experiencing psychological or physical ill health but also to work closely with our counterparts in other Forces.

The occupational health service makes a significant contribution to the national police wellbeing agenda. This promotes the best practices within Occupational Health but also enables us to support one another.

The post will be located at Winfrith our police headquarters in Dorset. There is the potential for one day of home working.
