Job summary

British Transport Police is seeking an experienced Occupational Health Advisor to join the Occupational Health Team. The role focuses on supporting recruitment activities, case management, fitness for task assessments and health surveillance across regional sites.

You will deliver a full OH service, provide expert advice to managers and employees, and travel to BTP locations with some remote work. The position offers a blended home/office arrangement.

Salary: £52,040.92 per annum, plus £4,598.00 Market Supplement and London Allowance £4,775.00 per annum (for candidates based in London only).

The Opportunity:

Are you looking for your next exciting career move? British Transport Police have an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Health Advisor to join the Occupational Health Team. As an Occupation Health Advisor with BTP, you will provide a full range of Occupational Health services mainly supporting recruitment activities. There will be some case management required by the BTP including case management, fitness for task medicals, health surveillance and supporting our Wellbeing services across regional sites.

What you'll be doing:

• Deliver a high-quality Occupational Health service across BTP medical centres, divisional locations and remotely. Undertake case management, health assessments and health surveillance activities, applying evidence-based practice to assess fitness for work and provide clear recommendations, adjustments and guidance in line with medical standards, legislation and organisational requirements.
• Support recruitment medical processes, ensuring the effective assessment and onboarding of new starters into the organisation.
• Provide expert, impartial Occupational Health advice to managers and employees on an individual and group basis. This includes contributing to sickness absence meetings, advising on fitness for work, workplace adjustments, attendance management and occupational health risks.
• Work proactively with managers to promote employee health, wellbeing and attendance, providing education and guidance to support their responsibilities and contributing to Health and Safety meetings where required.
• Represent BTP within professional Occupational Health networks and specialist forums, including the College of Policing Occupational Health Practitioner Network and Occupational Health Nurse Advisors to the Police Service (OHNAPS). Share best practice, contribute to professional development activities and support the continuous improvement of clinical services and processes.
• Travel to BTP locations across the network as required, with the opportunity to undertake a proportion of the role through remote working arrangements.

What you'll bring to the team:

• Degree, diploma or certificate in Occupational Health Nursing
• Proven Occupational Health experience and medical assessment skills relevant to case management, pre-employment and fitness for task assessments.
• Experience of complex case management and medical assessment skills; management of medical information, confidentiality and provision of advice and recommendation.
• Demonstrates an understanding of Occupational Health and Health & Safety best practice and legislative requirements in clinical OH practice.
• Competency in undertaking safety critical medicals including medical history taking and assessment, screening of blood pressure recordings, hearing, vision/colour vision and lung function capabilities and advising on fitness for task of our employees.
• Acts in a professional and knowledgeable manner and can command the confidence of line and operational managers, employees, trade unions, external partners and other stakeholders.
