Summary

We are looking for an Observability Performance Engineer to help us improve the visibility into the performance and health of Smart Communications applications, infrastructure, and services. As an Observability Performance Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to design and implement observability systems, encompassing monitoring, logging, and tracing capabilities. You will collaborate with the Development, Operations, and Enterprise Architecture teams to build and maintain a robust monitoring, logging, and tracing framework.

The responsibilities of the role include:

  • Develop and guide others in developing dashboards, alerts, and reports to ensure both Development and Operational teams are promptly alerted to unexpected system performance and outages.
  • Assist in developing performance tests for the SAAS application and use observability insights to interpret results and suggest improvements.
  • Performance testing, checking the speed, reliability, scalability, stability, response time, and resource use of applications under load.
  • Be an observability evangelist and collaborate with development, support, and operations teams to build observability requirements into the software development lifecycle, allowing teams to monitor the performance of services and applications they work with self-sufficiently. Provide guidance and training on best practices.
  • Support incident response procedures using insights and data from observability tools to proactively identify, troubleshoot and resolve application issues.
  • Maintain, enhance and monitor observability tooling, looking for opportunities to enhance processes and products used. Research new technologies and practices used more widely in the software development industry.

What we’re looking for:

Must have skills/experience:

  • A degree in computer science/engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience with Observability and monitoring.
  • Hands-on experience with observability tools like Grafana, Prometheus, ELK and AWS observability Stack.
  • Experience with Cloud Platforms and cloud-native applications, particularly hosted on AWS.
  • Scripting skills with Python and Bash.
  • Good communication, teamworking & organization skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills and are used to working in a structured way.

Advantageous skills/experience:

  • Experience with Performance tools.
  • Experience with AWS X-Ray.
  • Experience with OpenTelemetry.
