Job summary

Kanadevia Inova is seeking an O&M Assistant Shift Team Leader to join our Earls Gate operations. You will manage safe, efficient daily operation of the EfW plant from the main control room using the DCS and CMMS, stepping up as STL when required.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of hands-on experience in power/EfW or similar heavy processing, with SAP (11KV) and IOSH qualifications, and excellent English communication to train others and lead safety initiatives.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years operational experience in power/EfW or similar heavy process.
• Knowledge of SAP (11KV) and CMMS.
• Recognised engineering or process discipline qualification and IOSH qualification; HSE training desirable.
• Understanding of equipment interlocks, control loops, alarms and trips.
• Excellent verbal and written English communication; able to train others.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and control plant parameters via the DCS; safely shut down and restart production, safety, and utility plants.
• Lead HSEQ activities; report incidents and stop unsafe work.
• Perform daily walk-downs; log maintenance requests in CMMS; assist STL with LOTO.
• Provide emergency response support during plant upsets.
• Collaborate with maintenance; maintain cleanliness; step into STL role when required.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious O&M Assistant Shift Team Leader (Assistant STL) to join our Operations team at our Earls Gate facility. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant daily operation of our centrally controlled Energy from Waste (EfW) plant and its associated auxiliaries.

Operating from the main control room, you will utilize the Distributed Control System (DCS) and manual safety systems to manage plant parameters. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining high HSEQ standards, leading by example, and stepping up to act as the Shift Team Leader (STL) when required.

Key Responsibilities

• Control Room Operations: Monitor and control plant operating parameters via the DCS (manually or automatically); safely shut down and restart production, safety, and utility plants following established procedures.
• HSEQ Leadership: Demonstrate a strict commitment to Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality; report incidents/near-misses, and exercise the authority to stop unsafe work.
• Plant Inspections & Maintenance: Conduct daily routine walk-downs, complete log sheets, log maintenance work requests in the CMMS, and assist the STL with equipment lockouts/tagouts (LOTO).
• Emergency Response: Provide active support as part of the installation’s emergency response team and react quickly with sound judgment during plant upsets.
• Team Collaboration: Liaise closely with the maintenance department, maintain workplace cleanliness, and step into the full STL role when required.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of operational experience within the Power Industry, Energy from Waste (EfW), or a similar heavy process industry.
• Technical Skills: Proven experience with SAP (11KV) systems and operating standard IT/Computerised Maintenance Management Systems.
• Qualifications: A recognized qualification in an engineering or process discipline (or equivalent), alongside an IOSH qualification. Additional HSE accredited training is highly desirable.
• Control Room Competency: A clear understanding of equipment interlocks, plant control loops, alarms, and trips.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to provide clear instructions and train others.
