Applications are invited for the post of Special Interest Obstetrics and Gynaecology Fellow Post - Genomic Gynae Oncology Fellow. This post is available for a period of 12 months initially, with the option to extend by mutual agreement.
This position offers a great opportunity for O and G doctors at ST4+ level, ideally at ST6-7, to train in the exciting and rapidly progressing field of genomics while working in one of the largest and busiest trusts in the country.
We aim to provide training in genetics and genomics with a focus on gynaecological oncology. The training will be delivered through a combined approach within the gynaecology oncology department and clinical genetics, including sessions in both departments.
Training will include Gynaecology Oncology MDT working and the integration of genomics/genetics into cancer planning and care. Additionally, training will cover management and prophylactic surgery of gene carriers. The successful candidate will participate in genetic testing, receive training in genetic counselling, and have opportunities to engage in research programmes.
The Maternity and Gynaecology department encompasses all hospital and community-based obstetrics, gynaecology, and midwifery services. The department is staffed by 44 consultants, including 18 obstetric consultants, 18 gynaecologists, and 8 combined obstetrician and gynaecologists.
Services are split between the City hospital and Queen's Medical Centre sites, both with labour suites, level 3 Neonatal Units, dedicated obstetric anaesthetic services, and inpatient and outpatient obstetric services. There is a 24-hour presence of junior doctors across two tiers. Our fetal medicine centre accepts regional referrals across both sites. The department also offers a dedicated maternal medicine service with multi-professional clinics, including obstetric haematology, renal, and medical services. The department has a strong research presence, contributing to and leading national and international clinical trials.
Participation in the 1 in 9 out-of-hours resident rota is required. Depending on experience, on-call duties will be at Registrar (ST4-5, Tier 2) or Senior Registrar level (Tier 3). There are two tiers of registrars on each site for O and G, with a separate rota for emergency gynaecology on the Queen's campus.
