Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Special Interest Obstetrics and Gynaecology Fellow - Genomic Gynae Oncology. This post is available for a period of 12 months initially, with the option to extend by mutual agreement.

This position offers a great opportunity for O and G doctors at ST4+ level, ideally at ST6-7, to train in the exciting and rapidly progressing field of genomics while working in one of the largest and busiest trusts in the country.

Main duties of the job

We aim to provide training in genetics and genomics, focusing on gynae oncology. The training will be delivered through a combined approach within the gynae oncology department and clinical genetics, including sessions in both departments.

Training will cover Gynaecology Oncology MDT work and how genomics/genetics integrates into cancer planning and care. Additional training will include management and prophylactic surgery of gene carriers. The successful candidate will participate in mainstream genetic testing, be trained in genetic counselling, and have opportunities to engage in research programs.

About us

The Maternity and Gynaecology department encompasses all hospital and community-based obstetrics, gynaecology, and midwifery services. It includes 44 consultants: 18 obstetric, 18 gynaecologists, and 8 combined obstetric and gynaecologists.

Services are split between City Hospital and Queen's Medical Centre, both with labour suites, associated with a level 3 Neonatal Unit, dedicated obstetric anaesthetic services, and inpatient/outpatient obstetric services. The department features a 24-hour junior doctor presence, a regional fetal medicine centre, maternal medicine services, and a strong research presence with national and international trials.

Job responsibilities

Participation in a 1 in 9 out of hours resident rota is required. On-call duties will depend on experience, at Registrar (ST4-5, Tier 2) or Senior Registrar level (Tier 3). There are two tiers of registrars on each site for O and G, with a separate rota for emergency gynaecology at Queen's campus.

  • ST4 or above

  • Distinction, prizes, or honours during postgraduate training
