Job summary

The City of Edinburgh Council is seeking an enthusiastic Early Years Assistant for Gylemuir Primary School in Edinburgh. You will support young learners through high‑quality play, helping to create a safe, inclusive environment and to develop confidence, independence and wellbeing across the early years.

This 36-hour-per-week fixed-term post runs 52 weeks a year with early, core and late shifts (7.45am–6.00pm).

Qualifications

• Experience as Early Years Assistant is desirable.
• SSSC registration or equivalent and SVQ2 within 3 years required.

Responsibilities

• Support children’s learning, development and wellbeing through high‑quality play.
• Help create an inclusive, welcoming and engaging learning environment.
• Support children to develop confidence, independence and social skills.
• Build nurturing relationships with children.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues.
• Prepare and maintain stimulating indoor and outdoor learning environments.
• Support children with individual needs and promote inclusion.
• Contribute to observations and discussions about learning and development.
• Follow safeguarding, health, safety and wellbeing policies.
