Office for Nuclear Regulation is seeking a Nuclear Safety Inspector – Supply Chain to play a pivotal role in ensuring safe, secure, and reliable supply chains for nuclear plant and services. You will assess procurement practices, promote rigorous oversight, and contribute to safeguarding public safety.
The role requires a strong background in science/engineering and substantial experience in supply chain management within the nuclear sector or a high-hazard domain.
Take your knowledge to the next level with a national regulator
We are the UK’s independent nuclear regulator, dedicated to keeping the UK’s nuclear industry safe and secure. We invest in our people to build capability and resilience within our great teams, underpinned by our inherent focus on inclusion and excellence. Our values, ‘supportive, open-minded, fair and accountable,’ shape how we work. Use your professional expertise to make a positive impact. Be part of a team committed to being a modern, transparent regulator delivering trusted outcomes and value. And, support our mission to protect society by securing safe nuclear operations. As a Nuclear Safety Inspector – Supply Chain, you’ll play a vital part in this work and bring credibility to everything you do.
The nuclear industry is evolving fast – and you’ll be central to its transformation. Your work will be critical to the decarbonisation of the UK’s economy; our national defence; and the decommissioning of our nuclear legacy.
As a Supply Chain Inspector, you will assess duty holders’ supply chain management arrangements, which ensure the delivery of nuclear plant, equipment, and services safely and ‘right first time.’ It involves establishing whether duty holders have adequately considered safety when developing its supply chain strategies.
A fundamental element of the arrangements are the duty holders’ procurement processes. You’ll influence duty holders to deploy adequate oversight and assurance arrangements for all organisations that provide high risk nuclear plant, equipment and services. There may also be the chance to represent ONR/UK nationally and internationally.
From day one, you can expect thorough training. This will ensure you have the regulatory abilities required in this crucial role.
As a Nuclear Safety Inspector, you’ll have a degree (or equivalent) in a Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline and membership of a relevant professional body. You’ll also have considerable experience of supply chain management in the nuclear sector, or equivalent high hazard industry, delivering ‘right first time,’ plant, equipment and services. We’ll be looking for the ability to understand technical specifications, procurement processes, oversight and assurance arrangements and the application of relevant codes, standards, legal and regulatory frameworks. Finally, you’ll know how to develop, implement, and maintain quality management arrangements related to the acquisition of high-risk plant and equipment.
Whatever the level of your technical expertise, you will need the ability to communicate clearly with a range of contacts, judge complex technical issues, and influence others. Respect, credibility and humility will be needed if you want to connect with and persuade duty holders.
Our people’s dedication to public safety and security is central to the delivery of our commitments to the public we serve. We therefore offer competitive salaries, with this role attracting a salary of £83,292 – £100,032 (plus £4,194 London Weighting Allowance if applicable). Plus, flexible and hybrid working options in addition to generous holiday entitlement.
Our colleagues are from all walks of life with varied personal experiences and career journeys into ONR. We want the best people for our roles. As an inclusive employer we welcome diverse perspectives and value individuals’ contributions, regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, social background, religion, or belief.
