Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Characterisation Consultant to join the Radiation Protection & Characterisation team in the UK. The role focuses on characterisation and decommissioning of radiologically regulated sites, applying sampling strategies and delivering robust technical outputs for clients.

You will work with specialists across radiometrics, waste management and protection, contributing to project delivery and business development while mentoring junior staff where appropriate.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant scientific, engineering or technical discipline.
• Experience in radiological characterisation, nuclear decommissioning or radioactive waste management.
• Experience developing DQOs, SAPs or other characterisation strategies.
• Strong technical report writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and review building and facility history files to support characterisation planning.
• Develop Sampling and Analysis Plans (SAPs) and Data Quality Objectives (DQOs).
• Review analytical and radiological data, develop robust conclusions and recommendations.
• Produce clear, technically robust reports, method statements and risk assessments.
• Represent the team at client, project and regulatory meetings; collaborate with multidisciplinary specialists.
