Job summary

Harrisons Sauces is seeking an NPD Assistant to help develop and launch new sauces and condiments. You will support the Senior NPD Technologist with formulation, kitchen testing and scale-up for foodservice, retail and brand partners.

Recent graduates and final-year students are welcome. Based in Loughborough, the role offers a clear progression path and hands-on training in a busy, certified manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition or a related subject.
• Year/placement in food manufacturing or NPD is welcome.
• Strong attention to detail and methodical approach.

Responsibilities

• Support new products from concept to launch, including formulation, kitchen testing and scale-up.
• Develop recipe formulations against customer briefs for sign-off by the Senior NPD Technologist.
• Make, label and record kitchen samples so every trial is traceable.
• Run sensory evaluations, shelf-life and stability tests.
• Keep accurate records of formulations, test results and specifications.
• Prepare ingredient declarations, allergen information and nutrition data in line with food safety, Halal and regulatory requirements.
• Help select and source ingredients, and check supplier specifications meet our standards.
• Support pilot and full-scale factory trials.
• Research consumer trends and competitor products to support customer briefs.
• Work with sales, production and quality teams for smooth launches.
• Track project milestones and update the Senior NPD Technologist regularly.
• Keep the NPD kitchen clean, organised and audit-ready.
• Manage NPD ingredient stock, including rotation and reordering.

Job type: Full-time, permanent. Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week (8 hours per day)

What we’re looking for

• A degree or qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition or a related subject
• Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate, or clear awareness of food safety procedures
• Methodical, with high attention to detail
• Confident with computers, especially Excel and Word
• A passion for food and flavour, and ambition to build a career in NPD
• Placement year or experience in food manufacturing, NPD, QA or a development kitchen
• Awareness of allergen management, food labelling rules and HACCP
• Experience of sensory evaluation or shelf‑life testing
• Understanding of Halal requirements
