The Board Member for Sempra Homes Limited, Basildon Council’s wholly owned housing development company, will work with the Chairman and Service Lead to shape the strategic direction and ensure the business’ ongoing financial viability.
There are three positions, with a two‑day/month time commitment on average. The role is fixed term (up to 3 years) with a salary of £5,000 per annum and a possibility to take on the Company Chair role.
Non-Executive Director – Basildon Council (Basildon Borough Council) – Fixed Term, Part Time.
Salary: £5,000 per annum. Location: Basildon. Closing Date: 5th November 2026.
Contract: Fixed Term up to 3 years.
Positions: 3 Non-Executive Directors.
Company: Sempra Homes Limited.
Terms: Three years (reviewable annually).
Responsible to: Sempra Homes Chair, supported by Company Secretary.
Responsible for: Jointly responsible for the overall effectiveness of Sempra Homes’ development and delivery of the company’s business plan.
Role Requirements: Sempra Homes Board meetings, working groups and other briefings as required.
Time commitment: One to two days a month.
The Board Member will work with the Chairman and Service Lead for Sempra to further develop the overall strategic direction of Sempra Homes; developing and committing to its mission, vision and strategic objectives; and ensuring the business’ continuing financial viability.
There is also the opportunity for one of these roles to take on the Company Chair person role.
Sempra Homes Limited is Basildon Council’s wholly owned, award-winning, subsidiary housing development company. The company’s primary purpose is to provide homes for local residents through a range of different types of housing and tenure and generate a financial return to the Council as its sole shareholder.
The company was incorporated in 2014 and has a successful track record of delivery. It continues to develop and is at an exciting key point to review its long-term business and financial strategies and develop a pipeline of housing for delivery over the next five years across the Basildon borough and wider Essex area subject to Local Government Reform.
