Job description

Night Equine Hospital RVN

Location: Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic, Mereworth

Shift Pattern: 7 nights on / 7 nights off

Hours: 12‑hour night shifts (8:00 PM–8:00 AM)

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Veterinary Nurse (REVN or RVN) to join our busy equine hospital team on a 7‑on / 7‑off rota. This is an excellent opportunity for an RVN who is passionate about equine care and confident working independently overnight in a hospital environment.

Role Overview

You will be responsible for overnight inpatient care, ensuring high standards of clinical monitoring, husbandry, and hospital maintenance. The role includes supporting emergency admissions and procedures, maintaining clinical areas, and ensuring smooth handover to the daytime team.

Key Responsibilities
Overnight Inpatient & Emergency Care
  • Provide continuous monitoring of hospital inpatients overnight.
  • Carry out medical treatments and routine husbandry care.
  • Assist with emergency admissions and surgeries, including preparation and post‑operative care until a vet arrives.
  • Provide first aid, initial triage, and critical care support during emergencies.
Clinical Duties
  • Assist vets with examinations, surgeries, anaesthesia, and emergency procedures.
  • Administer medications, fluids, and Schedule 3 procedures under veterinary direction.
  • Monitor and record patient observations, including TPRs, behaviour, and clinical changes.
Laboratory & Diagnostic Support
  • Perform basic laboratory tests, including blood sampling and worm egg counts.
  • Assist with diagnostic imaging (e.g. radiography) and other clinic‑based diagnostics under supervision.
Stable, Yard & Hospital Duties
  • Provide feeding where required, skipping out, and general equine husbandry.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene across stables, treatment rooms, theatre, and dispensary.
  • Deep clean and restock clinical areas during quieter periods, including bedding, flooring, and instruments.
Equipment, Stock & Vehicle Management
  • Clean, sterilise, and check surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Carry out equipment checks and functionality audits, reporting issues as required.
  • Complete stock checks, replenish consumables, and conduct pool vehicle audits.
  • Ensure clinical areas and vehicles are secure.
Administration & Communication
  • Maintain accurate patient records and medication logs.
  • Manage laboratory results and ensure appropriate documentation.
  • Complete administrative tasks, including taking payments or deposits, data entry, and shift handovers.
  • Communicate effectively with the wider clinical team and, where appropriate, with horse owners regarding care plans and updates.
