Job summary

West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is launching a 6-week training programme for Healthcare Support Workers. Selected individuals will be employed by the hospital during training and will transition into a Healthcare Support Worker role upon successful completion.

Shifts are 12.5 hours long, covering days, nights and weekends in a 24/7 ward-based pattern. Interviews occur Nov 10, 2026; start date is Jan 11, 2027. Opportunity for progression within the Trust.

Qualifications

• No healthcare qualifications or experience required.
• 6-week training period during which participants will be employed by the hospital.
• Care Certificate qualification to be completed as part of ongoing training.
• Residency and funding eligibility: must meet funding rules; eligibility assessed individually.
• Age requirement: must be aged 19 by 31 March 2027.

Responsibilities

• Support patient hygiene and assist with feeding as needed.
• Deliver prescribed care under the guidance of a registered nurse.
• Ensure cleanliness and organisation of designated wards, areas and equipment.
