Job summary

York Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Operative within the Estates Department at York Hospital. The role involves keeping grounds and gardens across the Trust estate to high standards, with outdoor work including mowing, trimming, and general garden care.

You will work across sites, with Monday–Friday hours and on-call duties as needed. A full NHS package applies, including pension, generous holiday entitlement, and relocation support where applicable.

Qualifications

• GCSE Maths and English (4/C) or equivalent.
• UK driving licence (current).
• Certificate of Competence in Pesticides required for application of pesticides.

Responsibilities

• Maintain grounds and gardens to required standards across the Trust estate.
• Perform mowing, hedge trimming, strimming, pruning, and general garden maintenance.
• Keep areas clean and tidy; manage litter and debris; operate horticultural machinery.
• Attend relevant training and participate in on-call rota if required.
