We have an exciting permanent opportunity within our Newborn Screening Team for a Newborn Screening Champion. In this rewarding role, you’ll support families on day 5 in a variety of settings—including the maternity ward, neonatal unit, community clinics, and home visits—offering a holistic approach to newborn screening and postnatal care.
You’ll be involved in both the newborn bloodspot and hearing screening programmes, while also providing feeding support, routine postnatal checks, and wellbeing assessments.
The role is for 7.5-hour shifts, with coverage across all 7 days of the week.
We’re looking for someone who is hardworking, flexible, enthusiastic, and above all, kind and caring, with a genuine passion for person-centred care.
In this role, you will work as a valued member of the maternity team, delivering the newborn screening programmes and providing postnatal care to families across the Bath Clinical area on day 5. You will make a difference by supporting families during a crucial stage in their journey, offering compassionate, person-centred care in a variety of settings including hospitals, clinics, and home environments.
Under the guidance of the Newborn Screening Manager, you will be responsible for delivering both the newborn hearing and bloodspot screening programmes. You will also be supported to undertake a Level 3 Diploma in Newborn Hearing Screening within six months of starting the role, which will include some independent study in your own time.
Once appropriately trained, you will prepare and maintain screening equipment, arrange appointments and home visits, and support the daily operations of the service through administrative and clerical tasks. You will maintain and develop the clinical skills needed to deliver a gold standard screening service, while confidently engaging with families in a professional and sensitive manner.
A key part of your role will be to understand and clearly explain the conditions screened for, ensuring families feel informed, reassured, and supported throughout the process.
At the RUH we’re proud to put people at the heart of what we do, working together as one team to make a difference for our patients, each other, and our community. No matter what your role is, we value everyone’s contribution in supporting the exceptional, person-centred care we pride ourselves on.

We value our differences, champion kindness and civility, and truly believe that diversity makes us stronger.
A culture of learning, developing and innovating is the thread that runs throughout our whole organisation. We want to support you to thrive, taking your career to its full potential.
We value staff wellbeing, with a well‑established programme of support. We believe in a holistic approach spanning all aspects of living a healthy life, including physical, emotional, spiritual and financial wellbeing. We’ve even got a pool!
