Job summary

The newborn hearing screener role at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust sits within the Audiology Department, with strong links to Maternity services and the wider newborn screening programme. You will screen on inpatient wards, the delivery suite and neonatal units at Leeds General Infirmary and St James Hospital, contributing to a seven-day service.

Training and a Level 3 Diploma in Health Screening are provided.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication to gain informed consent from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to use IT to upload results and perform end-of-day checks.
• Willingness to undertake the Level 3 Diploma in Health Screening.
• Methodical, well organised and able to prioritise workload.

Responsibilities

• Screen newborns on inpatient wards, delivery suite and neonatal units.
• Obtain informed consent and perform the screening test.
• Explain results and arrange surveillance or referrals.
• Upload electronic results and complete administrative tasks.
• Work as part of a seven-day-a-week service, including weekends.
