Accounts & Tax Senior – Leading Independent Accountancy Practice
About the Role
A well-established and growing accountancy practice is seeking an experienced Accounts & Tax Senior to join its team. This is a full-time, office-based role offering the opportunity to take ownership of a varied client portfolio, delivering a full range of accounting and tax services to owner-managed businesses, companies, and individuals.
The ideal candidate will be a hands-on professional with strong UK practice experience, confident in managing their own workload, reviewing others’ work, and maintaining high standards of client service.
Preparation and review of:
Company Accounts (including medium-sized entities and group/consolidated accounts)
Self-Employed Accounts and Rental Accounts
Company and Personal Tax Returns
Manage a portfolio of clients, overseeing workflow, WIP, and deadlines.
Provide general tax advice including R&D Claims, ATED, and MTD compliance.
Act as the primary client contact, handling all communication in a professional and timely manner (via phone, email, and written correspondence).
Liaise with HMRC to resolve queries and manage compliance matters.
Review and control chargeable time to ensure profitability and efficiency.
Prepare and submit accounts and tax returns for approval and filing.
Support client onboarding: preparing fee proposals, issuing engagement letters, and managing setup.
Assist with credit control and client billing processes.
Work effectively with outsourced teams and colleagues to ensure smooth workflow and quality output.
Prepare charity accounts and medium-sized company accounts where applicable.
Audit experience is desirable but not essential.
5–10 years’ experience in UK practice (essential).
Strong working knowledge of Sage suite (SAPA, CT, IT, Partnership, Trusts) – highly desirable.
Experience with Xero accounting software preferred.
Excellent technical accounting and tax knowledge with a meticulous attention to detail.
Proven ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines effectively.
Confident communicator with strong written and verbal skills.
Positive, proactive attitude with a willingness to learn new systems and processes.
Must live within a 45-minute commute of the office.
Working Hours: 9:00am – 5:30pm (full-time, office-based)
Start Date: Mid-November preferred
