Job summary

TSR Legal in Newport, South Wales, is seeking a Senior Corporate Associate or Partner to join its growing Corporate and Commercial team. You will advise on a broad range of corporate transactions and help shape the next chapter of the practice.

Working with colleagues across property, litigation and employment, you will develop long-term client relationships, mentor junior lawyers and pursue business growth to strengthen the Newport firm’s regional presence.

TSR Legal is delighted to be working with a long established South Wales law firm that is entering an exciting period of development within its Corporate and Commercial practice.

With roots in Newport stretching back to the 1870s, the firm has built its reputation through long standing relationships, practical advice and a genuine understanding of the businesses and people it represents. Its client base includes established family businesses, entrepreneurs, owner managed companies and larger organisations, with relationships that in some cases have continued across generations.

The Corporate and Commercial team advises on acquisitions and disposals, share and asset sales, management buyouts, joint ventures and wider company and commercial matters. The firm has also advised on significant transactions involving established Newport businesses and growing UK groups.

This is an opportunity for a senior corporate lawyer who wants more than a position within an established hierarchy. The Opportunity

You will join a partner led Corporate and Commercial team working closely with colleagues across commercial property, commercial litigation and employment. The wider commercial offering continues to develop, creating genuine opportunities for collaboration and cross referral.

Your work will include:

• Advising businesses, shareholders, entrepreneurs and management teams on a broad range of corporate transactions and strategic matters.
• Handling mergers and acquisitions, including share and asset sales, acquisitions and management buyouts.
• Advising on shareholder agreements, joint ventures, company reorganisations and corporate structures.

The Person

We are looking for an experienced corporate solicitor at Senior Associate or Partner level who combines strong technical ability with commercial judgement and an instinct for client service.

You will ideally have:

• Significant experience advising on corporate transactions, particularly mergers and acquisitions, investments, shareholder arrangements and restructurings.
• The confidence to take ownership of matters and provide commercially sensible advice without unnecessary complexity.
• A strong understanding of the needs of owner managed businesses, entrepreneurs and established companies.
• Excellent drafting and negotiation skills, with the ability to handle transactions from initial instruction through to completion.
• The credibility and interpersonal skills to develop long term client relationships.
• Experience supervising or mentoring junior lawyers and contributing positively to the development of a team.
• A genuine interest in business development and the ambition to help grow a practice rather than simply inherit one.
