We're looking for a skilled and motivated Network Asset Engineer (Single Skilled Electrical) to join our Wastewater Network team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in maintaining and improving the performance of critical wastewater assets that help keep services flowing for around 750,000 customers across the region.

The Role

Reporting to the Non-Infrastructure Drainage Delivery Manager, you will provide an efficient and effective electrical maintenance service across a defined geographical area within Wastewater Services.

You will be responsible for maintaining the reliability, safety and compliance of powered wastewater assets through a combination of reactive, planned and proactive maintenance activities. Working closely with operational teams and contractors, you'll identify root causes of failures, implement effective solutions and support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce asset downtime, pollution risks and service interruptions.

This is a varied and rewarding role that combines hands‑on engineering with asset management, contractor coordination and performance optimisation.

What You'll Be Doing

Key responsibilities include:

• Responding to alarms, customer reports and operational incidents as the first line response for powered wastewater assets.
• Undertaking fault finding, investigation and root cause analysis on electrical failures.
• Carrying out planned, reactive and proactive electrical maintenance activities.
• Ensuring electrical faults are resolved safely and effectively, minimising repeat failures.
• Supporting Network Asset Controllers in reviewing and optimising telemetry alarm settings.
• Ensuring all electrical and mechanical assets are correctly registered and maintained within company systems.
• Recording maintenance activities and asset information accurately to ensure regulatory compliance and data quality.
• Helping ensure all powered assets remain compliant with Environmental Agency permit requirements.
• Identifying and implementing solutions to reduce pollution incidents, flooding events and asset failures.
• Acting as the Person Controlling the Works (PCW) for electrical activities undertaken by framework contractors.
• Managing contractors to ensure work is delivered safely, efficiently, on time and within budget.
• Supporting the review and maintenance of site contingency plans and critical spare strategies.
• Working with maintenance planners to optimise electrical inspection and maintenance programmes using Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) principles.
• Providing technical input into capital projects, new developments and asset improvement schemes.
• Supporting Notice of Proposal (NOP), Section 104 and Capital Delivery meetings and site visits where required.

Participating in the local standby rota (minimum 1 in 6)

What We're Looking For

We're seeking a proactive engineer with strong technical capability, excellent problem‑solving skills and a passion for delivering operational excellence.

You will have:

• A City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in an Electrical discipline.
• Practical experience of electrical maintenance, inspection and fault diagnosis.
• A sound understanding of powered assets and electrical systems.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Good IT skills and the ability to work with maintenance and asset management systems.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work independently and make sound decisions in operational environments.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• A flexible approach to working within a varied and dynamic workload.
• Experience coordinating contractors and overseeing site works.
• A full UK driving licence.

Desirable Knowledge and Experience

The following would be advantageous:

• Experience within wastewater, water, utilities or infrastructure environments.
• Knowledge of Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) principles.
• Understanding of Wastewater Network non‑infrastructure operations and procedures.
• Awareness of water industry regulations and performance requirements.
• Knowledge of British Standard 7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations.
• Experience of CDM Regulations and DSEAR Awareness.
• Training or experience relating to Confined Spaces, Manual Handling and NRSWA.
• Experience operating and maintaining wastewater powered assets.

Qualifications

Essential

• City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in an Electrical discipline.
• 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) Grade 9-4 / A-C, including Maths and English.

Desirable

• Understanding of Wastewater Network operational policies and procedures.
• Awareness of water industry regulators and wastewater operational requirements.
