University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is seeking a Consultant in Neonatal Medicine to lead the NICU and transitional care services. The role includes supervising junior medical staff, coordinating neonatal transfers, and contributing to fetal medicine liaison and antenatal counselling.

Qualifications

• CCST/CCT in Paediatrics (Neonatal Medicine) or overseas equivalent.
• CCST/CCT in Paediatrics with 3 years post-core UK training, or 2 years plus 1 in allied specialty, or CCT within 6 months.
• MRCPCH or equivalent.
• NLS Provider course, or APLS or equivalent.
• Valid level 3 safeguarding training.

Responsibilities

• Day-to-day running of the neonatal unit with handover rounds and junior staff supervision.
• Acting as NICU Service Consultant of the week with ward patients allocated to you.
• Oversee the transitional care ward with morning rounds and junior staff supervision.
• Fetal medicine liaison and antenatal counselling.
• Undergraduate teaching with weekly feedback sessions.
• Multi-professional education for NICU nursing and medical staff.
• Telephone liaison with Peninsula units and coordinate neonatal transfers via SoNAR North Hub.
• On-call cover Monday to Thursday, resident until after the 9pm ward round then non-resident.
• Shared responsibility for patients and cover for colleagues on leave.
• Training and supervision of junior doctors, audit, governance, appraisal and revalidation.
• Administrative duties for patient care and department running.
• Developing a special interest through the job plan.
