Job summary

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is recruiting for an NICU/Neonatal Service Consultant to lead day-to-day operations in the NICU, oversee junior staff, and participate in multidisciplinary teaching and service development.

The role includes Transitional Care, fetal medicine liaison, and participation in SoNAR; on-call duties and academic activities are part of the plan, with opportunities for subspecialty interests in neonatology.

Qualifications

• Full GMC Registration with specialist qualification in Neonatal Medicine.
• MSc/DM/PhD or equivalent higher degree welcome.
• Evidence of teaching medical students and junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day NICU operations with morning/afternoon rounds.
• Supervise junior medical staff and ensure patient safety.
• Coordinate Transitional Care and medical education activities.
• Participate in SoNAR and neonatal transport coordination.
• Attend on-call weeks Mon-Thu and respond to clinical needs.
• Contribute to teaching, audits, and clinical governance.
