University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust is seeking a Neonatal Educator to join our multidisciplinary neonatal service. The post focuses on providing clinical expertise, leading education, and supporting QIS trainees across wards and placements.

You will work with the Neonatal team to develop teaching, supervise practice, and drive education quality through audits and evidence-based practice, contributing to excellent patient care and ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical expertise and knowledge in neonatal identification, assessment, treatment and management.
  • Support Neonatal QIS nurses and midwives in training.
  • Monitor and improve education through clinical audit and evidence-based practice.
  • Lead on a yearly education plan and facilitate funding applications.
  • Coordinate cot-side teaching across all neonatal areas.
  • Ensure alignment of student placements with NMC competencies.
  • Investigate practice concerns or competency issues as needed.

Job description

Due to investment in our education team we are looking for a high profile, accessible and responsive educator. A clinical expert, working as a member of the multi-professional team, providing and developing specialist services and advice who is able to make informed decisions within their own speciality and scope of professional practice to ensure agreed standards and objectives are met.

The post holder will be expected to provide clinical expertise and knowledge, demonstrating a sound understanding of the issues related to identification, assessment, treatment and management of the Neonate and the Neonatal service. The post holder will focus on supporting the Neonatal QIS nurses / Midwives in training. They will monitor and improve standards of education through clinical audit, evidence base practice, teaching and supporting professional colleagues and the provision of skilled professional leadership.

Secondment will be considered for internal candidates – If you are successful after interview, you must obtain approval from your current line manager to accept the offer.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

The post holder will lead on the following key areas:

  • Supporting students on a neonatal clinical placement and be a first point of contact for assessors to offer guidance for issues relating to competence.
  • To provide pastoral support and training to students
  • To be conduit between the universities, students and clinical placements
  • To continue to develop, support and evaluate cot side teaching within all areas of the Neonatal service.
  • To ensure a yearly education plan is submitted for learning beyond registration funding or facilitate the submission of charity funding as applicable.
  • Facilitating Qualified In Speciality (QIS) applications to University and Study time on the roster.
  • Supporting QIS students and be a first point of contact for assessors to offer guidance for issues relating to competence.
  • Ensuring that student placement is aligned to the allocations provided by the Practice Placement Coordinator and rostered to meet the NMC competencies.
  • Support and lead if required with investigations of practice concerns / competency.
