Job summary

Murray McIntosh is seeking two experienced NEC Project Managers to join a major UK reservoir programme delivering NEC4 contracts across water infrastructure.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams, manage risk and governance, and ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget and to the required quality standards in a complex programme environment. Hybrid working with flexibility for part-time arrangements is offered.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualification in Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.
  • Significant experience delivering major infrastructure, water, utilities or capital projects.
  • Extensive practical experience administering NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts.

  • Lead successful delivery of major reservoir infrastructure projects from development through to completion.
  • Administer Early Warnings, Compensation Events and NEC4 contractual obligations.
  • Chair risk reduction meetings and drive proactive risk management across the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure change control, governance processes and records are maintained.
  • Manage performance of consultants, contractors and delivery partners.

NEC Project Manager - Water Sector

Lead the contracts shaping the future of water

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two experienced NEC Project Managers to join a major reservoir programme that will play a critical role in securing future water resilience across the UK.

These are high-profile positions offering the opportunity to influence the delivery of nationally significant infrastructure projects, working at the heart of a complex programme environment. Acting as the NEC4 Project Manager, you will provide leadership across multidisciplinary teams, drive project performance and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with contractual and governance requirements.

Whether your experience comes from water, utilities, infrastructure or major capital programmes, this role offers the chance to work on some of the most significant projects currently being delivered in the sector.

The Role

As NEC Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading the successful delivery of major reservoir infrastructure projects from development through to completion.

Key responsibilities will include:

Project Delivery & NEC Contract Management
  • Act as the NEC4 Project Manager, administering the contract and discharging delegated Project Manager responsibilities.
  • Lead the delivery of major reservoir infrastructure projects, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on programme and within budget.
  • Manage project scope, programme, cost, quality and risk across complex project environments.
  • Administer Early Warnings, Compensation Events, contractual notifications and assessments in accordance with NEC4 requirements.
  • Chair Early Warning and Risk Reduction Meetings, driving proactive risk management throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure robust change control and governance processes are implemented and maintained.
  • Manage the performance of consultants, contractors and delivery partners.
  • Issue contractual assessments, certifications and acceptances in accordance with NEC contract obligations.
  • Support dispute avoidance and effective contract administration.
  • Maintain accurate project, contractual and commercial records.
Project Governance & Performance
  • Monitor project performance against key milestones, budgets and delivery objectives.
  • Produce project reports, performance insights and governance updates for senior stakeholders.
  • Identify and manage project risks, issues and opportunities.
  • Lead project reviews and ensure actions are implemented and tracked to completion.
  • Support programme boards, governance forums and assurance activities.
  • Ensure project deliverables are achieved in line with programme governance requirements.
Stakeholder Management & Leadership
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, contractors, consultants and key stakeholders.
  • Promote a collaborative approach across project teams and partner organisations.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Influence key project and programme decisions through effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to project team members where appropriate.
Continuous Improvement
  • Champion best practice NEC project management across the programme.
  • Drive initiatives that improve project controls, governance and delivery performance.
  • Support the development of project management processes, procedures and tools.
  • Promote innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement across the wider programme.
About You

We are interested in speaking with candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Degree qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience delivering major infrastructure, water, utilities or capital projects.
  • Extensive practical experience administering NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts.
  • Experience acting as, or supporting, the NEC Project Manager on complex projects.
  • Strong understanding of project controls, compensation events, change management, risk management and governance.
  • Experience managing consultants, contractors and multidisciplinary delivery teams.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and leadership skills.
  • The ability to operate effectively within complex programme and matrix environments.
Desirable
  • NEC4 Project Manager Accreditation.
  • Chartered status or membership of a relevant professional institution.
  • Experience working within a Programme Delivery Partner environment.
  • Experience delivering reservoir, water, wastewater or major civil engineering projects.
  • Experience within regulated utility or AMP delivery programmes.
