Job summary

J McCann & Co Limited is seeking an experienced NDT Structural Testing Operative to join the Liverpool team. You will perform NDT and structural condition inspections on highways assets including street lighting columns, signs, bollards, and other steel infrastructure.

The role requires G39 and ECS qualifications, Manual Handling training, a full UK driving licence, and the ability to capture inspection data with tablets.

Qualifications

• G39 qualification for public lighting and street furniture.
• ECS (Electrical Certification Scheme) card.
• Manual handling training/certification.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across Liverpool.
• Understanding hazards around street lighting columns and electrical assets.
• Ability to use tablets/electronic systems to capture inspection data.

Responsibilities

• Carry out NDT structural condition testing of street lighting columns and other highways assets.
• Inspect steel columns for corrosion, cracking and loss of wall section.
• Undertake visual inspections to identify deterioration or defects.
• Use specialist NDT equipment to assess condition and remaining integrity.
• Open column doors and work around electrical equipment following safety procedures.
• Take accurate measurements of structure and wall thickness at specified locations.
• Record inspection results using digital data collection systems and tablets.
• Take clear photos to support inspection records.
• Identify assets needing further investigation or remedial action.
• Follow site risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work.
• Work independently across Liverpool with high data accuracy.
