Job summary

Babcock is seeking a Mechanical Production Support Operative at HMNB Devonport to assist in the mechanical assembly, maintenance and repair of components and systems on naval vessels and in factory settings.

The role involves supporting production teams with tooling and materials, carrying out inspections and fault diagnosis, and ensuring compliance with safety and engineering standards in a high-risk, defence environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in mechanical fitting, maintenance and production support.
• Experience on marine platforms or in industrial manufacturing/maintenance environments.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and documentation.
• Strong understanding of health and safety practices in high‑risk environments.
• Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and propulsion systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist in mechanical assembly, maintenance and repair of components and systems on naval vessels and factory settings.
• Support production teams with tooling, materials and technical guidance.
• Carry out inspections, fault diagnosis and basic testing of mechanical systems.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality and engineering standards.
• Collaborate with engineers, managers and quality teams to resolve production issues.
