Job summary

MacTaggart Scott, based near Edinburgh, is seeking a Design Engineer to deliver technical support across departments, create and maintain drawings, and perform in-service design modifications as experience grows.

The role focuses on designing components, jigs, fixtures and tools, with regular collaboration across Production, QA, Procurement and Manufacturing. A relevant degree or apprenticeship and solid modelling skills are essential.

Qualifications

• BSc or BEng in Mechanical or similar Engineering, or relevant apprenticeship with HNC/HND and related experience.
• Experience with solid modelling and drawing design tools.
• Pragmatic problem solving and innovation.
• Flexible approach to work activities.
• Competency with Microsoft Office.
• Desirable: Finite element analysis experience.
• Desirable: Security clearance.
• Desirable: Experience creating complex technical drawings (parts and assemblies).
• Desirable: Awareness of military environmental requirements (safety, EMC, shock, noise, vibration).
• Desirable: Experience with electrical control of mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

• Liaise effectively with Production, QA, Procurement and Manufacturing teams.
• Maintain regular communication within workshop areas.
• Produce technically correct designs for jigs, fixtures and tools as required by manufacturing.
• Prepare and maintain manufacturing drawings to a high standard for jigs, fixtures and tools.
• Provide general technical support during manufacture and test.
• Consider and create solutions for equipment repair and refurbishment.
• Occasionally provide design/drawing capability to ease capacity demands.
• Configuration control of drawing sets.
• Promote Safe Working practices.
