Job description

GXO is currently seeking a talented and driven individual for the role of National Transport Manager, to work across our busy B&Q Sites. You will play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective running of the transport operation across 5 UK locations, 230 vehicles and 600 trailers. You’ll promote a culture of being safe, inclusive, impactful, game changing and delivering results, whilst continually striving for excellence in both fleet and driver compliance.

The role is being offered on a full-time, permanent basis. You will work Monday to Friday, although some flexibility may be required during peak times – this is logistics after all!

Pay, benefits and more:

You’ll be paid a salary of £65,000 - £70,000 per annum, along with a car or car allowance and discretionary bonus scheme entry. You’ll also receive 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), as well as the option to buy additional days so you can enjoy a positive work-life balance. What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Provide leadership, coaching, support and direction to the site transport managers
  • Be accountable for the safety, legal compliance, operator licencing and efficient execution of transport plans, ensuring customer SLA's/KPI's are delivered
  • Lead the transport team and function to ensure a best-in-class service is delivered for our customer
  • Be responsible for the wellbeing, performance and motivation of you team through regular performance dialogues, objective setting along with scheduled quarterly 1-2-1's with all your direct reports, plus lead the communication and engagement of the transport function
  • Lead from the front driving improvements in team engagement and performance, delivering improvements in safety, legal compliance and CI projects

  • Demonstrable experience within a similar role, managing a large, fast paced transport operation
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Able to positively manage change and develop your team
  • International CPC
  • Proficient with continuous improvement and cost saving initiatives
  • The ability to effectively communicate and engage at all levels
