Job description

Nanny Job Description

Marcilly Recruitment’s client, an UHNW family based in Chelsea, is seeking an energetic and experienced Nanny to support their two children of prep school age. This can be a live-in or live-out position with separate accommodation provided, including bills etc.

The ideal nanny is someone fun, caring, flexible, adaptable and capable of providing structure and discipline for the children. The mother likes to be hand’s on with parenting, so they want someone who knows when to take a step back and can also use their initiative. The mother is super personable and warm, so she is looking for a nanny who she can have a good relationship with and can bounce ideas off. It is a collaborative working environment, but then also remembering that professional undertone and relationship.

The successful candidate must have worked as a nanny in an UHNW, private household before and demonstrated longevity with an employer. An ex-teacher would also be highly desirable to act as a governess for the children, but not a necessity.

The family are a young, dynamic family with extremely busy lives. They really look after their staff but in return they do want someone who is dedicated and puts the children first. The successful nanny must thrive working in a fast-paced environment with ever-changing plans and schedules.

  • Salary: £55K-£85K depending on experience - there is flexibility for the perfect candidate
  • Benefits: discretionary bonus, live in accommodation and a separate London flat with bills included, food provided on site daily, pension, 28 days holiday
  • Start date:ideally ASAP, but happy to wait a notice period for the right candidate
  • Location: Chelsea
  • Hours: 06:45– 19:00 Monday to Friday

*The children are in full-time education during the day, so the nanny will have downtime in the day as well as providing PA support for the children. There is a gym onsite if you wish to use it in the day and all meals catered for.

The family have a weekend nanny so this is a Monday to Friday role. Ideally live-in, but if the successful candidate lives near Chelsea then live-out is also an option as long as they are happy with two babysitting nights a week on Wednesday and Thursday. These nights would involve sleeping over. The weekend nanny will also share school holidays in a rota system - 1 week on and one week off depending on travel schedules. If live-in then a separate flat is provided for the weekends and even a couple of nights a week when not babysitting.

Nanny Requirements

  • The successful candidate must have worked as a nanny in an UHNW household and demonstrated a passion for looking after young children.
  • A desire to stay in the role long term and demonstrable loyalty within previous roles.
  • Strong educational grades (A levels and above) to enable them to act as a Governess. Ideally experience working in childhood education.
  • Creativity and imagination are key, making playtime and education fun.
  • Strong time management and computer literacy to manage the children’s admin, daily schedules, acting as a point of contact for their school etc.
  • The ability to work as a collaborative team member in a fully staffed household.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbally – good grammar a must.
  • A patient and caring person who is able to set boundaries with kindness

Nanny Responsibilities

  • The principal likes to maintain a tidy household, however, understands that children will be children, so the nanny will ensure that following playtime, the residence is returned to its original state.
  • Coordinating daily activities and supervising transportation to and from all engagements, playdates, appointments, classes, activities.
  • The nanny must be prepared to plan fun and engaging activities to entertain the children, including lots of time outdoors.
  • Housekeeping on behalf of the children (this doesn’t include laundry, but wardrobe management, playroom management etc).
  • Organising and planning clubs for holidays, forward planning for future holidays.
  • Liaise with team on any upcoming events.
  • Organise gifts for upcoming children’s parties.
  • Organise gifts, books, hampers etc for holidays or events.
  • Check all children’s supplies and replace when required.
  • Check school app daily - organise anything needed for school.
  • Check household email daily and respond where required. Flag anything important to the team where relevant.
  • Calendar management and organising any activities, play dates etc.
  • Liaise with chef on menus – no allergies.
  • Assisting with school pick up and drop off when necessary.
  • Travel will be required with the role and all packing will be the nanny’s responsibility.
  • The nanny should be prepared to organise educational activities for school holidays.
  • The children both love to read so it is important for the nanny to ensure they have plenty of books to read, always keeping on top of new books that are coming out and reading with the children.
  • Emotional and psychological learning.
  • It is important for the nanny to socialise with other parents and nannies and is proactive in organising play dates for the children.
