A leading independent school in Scotland seeks a talented musician in residence or music teacher. The role involves inspiring students, engaging in boarding life, and promoting music-making across various levels. The school values creativity and a proactive attitude.
Situated on the beautiful Moray Coast in the North of Scotland, Gordonstoun was founded by Kurt Hahn, a visionary educationalist. The school is widely recognized as a world leader in Hahnian Education, emphasizing service, challenge, and compassion.
We are seeking a talented musician in residence to join our thriving department. You should be an outstanding, creative, and inspiring musician passionate about working with eager learners who challenge themselves. We also welcome applications from qualified music teachers who are inspirational educators.
Our community comprises over 500 students aged 5-18, mostly full boarding, from over 40 countries. Gordonstoun encourages staff involvement in our broad programme and seeks someone eager to engage actively in boarding life and Hahn’s philosophies, whether in the classroom, on the sports field, in the mountains, or in the Moray Firth. Above all, we value a positive, proactive attitude and shared belief in our motto, 'Plus Est En Vous' – 'There is more in you.'
The department promotes music-making and excellent performance at all levels. Academic music is taught at GCSE and A level, with many students opting for this subject. All pupils have the opportunity to learn an instrument, with numerous individual lessons each week. Instrumental and singing lessons are delivered by specialists who prepare students for exams and performances, and direct ensembles. Regular performances include informal lunchtime concerts, evening events, and trips across Scotland.
Candidates for the teacher of music position must be registered or eligible for registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland, as this is a condition of employment.
Gordonstoun is committed to building an inclusive team and welcomes applications from marginalised and under-represented groups.
