Situated on the beautiful Moray Coast in the North of Scotland, Gordonstoun was founded by Kurt Hahn, a visionary educationalist. The school is widely recognised as the world leader in Hahnian Education, an education focused on the philosophies of service, challenge and compassion.
We are looking for a talented musician in residence to join this thriving department. You will be an outstanding, creative, and inspiring musician who is passionate about working with students eager to learn and challenge themselves. We also welcome applications from inspirational qualified music teachers.
We are a community of over 500 students aged from 5-18, predominantly full boarding, drawn from over 40 countries. Gordonstoun encourages all staff to engage in our broad programme, and we seek someone eager to actively participate in boarding school life and Hahn’s philosophies—whether in the classroom, on the sports field, in the mountains, or in the Moray Firth. Above all, we’re looking for someone who embodies a positive, proactive attitude and shares our belief in the school’s motto, 'Plus Est En Vous' – 'There is more in you.'
The department aims to encourage music making and excellent performance at all levels. Academic music is taught at GCSE and A level, with many students choosing this optional subject. All pupils have the chance to learn an instrument, resulting in numerous individual music lessons each week. Instrumental and singing lessons are provided by a team of specialists who prepare pupils for performance exams, organize performances, and direct ensembles. Regular performances include informal lunchtime concerts, evening events, and trips across Scotland.
All candidates for the Teacher of Music position should be registered or eligible for registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland, as this is a condition of employment.
Gordonstoun strives to build a truly inclusive team. We welcome applications from marginalised and under-represented groups.
The closing date for applications is Monday 2 June 2025 at 9am, for a September 2025 start.
