Job summary

Northern is seeking a skilled railway maintenance technician based at Blackpool outstation to service, repair, and overhaul trains, diagnosing faults and performing preventive maintenance to keep the fleet safe and reliable for customers in the North.

You will work with mechanical and electrical systems, using diagnostic equipment and specialist tools, and will read engineering drawings while following strict safety procedures. A recognised engineering qualification and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Recognised engineering qualification (NVQ or equivalent).
• Experience maintaining mechanical and electrical systems.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical information.
• Proficient in fault finding and using diagnostic equipment.
• Strong commitment to safety, quality and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Carry out servicing, maintenance, repair and overhaul of Northern trains.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults and perform repairs.
• Complete planned preventative maintenance and vehicle servicing.
• Work on mechanical, electrical, plumbing and vehicle systems.
• Use diagnostic equipment and specialist tools safely and correctly.
• Prepare trains for service, including cleaning and servicing activities.
• Support shunting operations while following safety procedures.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and engineering standards.
• Mentor apprentices and colleagues to develop skills.
