Working within a fast-paced manufacturing and production environment, you’ll be responsible for ensuring machinery, equipment and site services operate safely and efficiently.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you’ll act as the key engineering contact on shift, combining hands-on mechanical and electrical maintenance with responsibility for prioritising engineering activities and improving plant performance.
Your responsibilities will include:
Carrying out electrical and mechanical fault finding, diagnostics and repairs on manufacturing equipment
Responding to machinery breakdowns and minimising production downtime
Completing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance
Acting as the senior engineering point of contact during your shift
Supporting and guiding other engineers and coordinating maintenance priorities
Identifying recurring equipment failures and conducting root cause analysis (RCA)
Improving machinery reliability, equipment efficiency and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)
Maintaining accurate maintenance records using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
Supporting engineering projects, new machinery installations and continuous improvement activities
Working closely with production teams to reduce breakdowns, waste and operating costs
Supporting engineering stores and spare parts management
Maintaining high standards of health and safety, including PUWER, LOLER and DSEAR compliance
We’re keen to hear from experienced engineers who enjoy solving problems, taking ownership and working in a busy manufacturing environment.
Ideally, you’ll have:
Experience as a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Shift Engineer or Senior Maintenance Engineer
Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills
Experience maintaining manufacturing machinery or automated production equipment
A background in food manufacturing, FMCG, production, packaging or general manufacturing
Experience with preventative maintenance, reactive breakdowns and machinery reliability
Knowledge of PPM, CMMS, root cause analysis and continuous improvement
Previous experience in a senior engineering, supervisory or shift leadership capacity
An engineering apprenticeship or relevant qualification such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC or equivalent
A proactive approach to health and safety, problem-solving and engineering improvements
You should be comfortable working independently, making decisions under pressure and taking responsibility for engineering performance during your shift.
This is more than a standard maintenance engineering position.
