About the Role:

We own and manage our entire supply chain, from farms to factories and directly to customers. We have major processing sites across England and Wales and an agricultural network of over 350 farms spanning North Yorkshire to the South Coast and Wales.

As an inclusive, forward-thinking business, we invest in our people across Avara Foods. We are seeking a highly competent and motivated Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer to join our Engineering Team at our Brackley site.

The role is factory-based, working in a fast-paced, dynamic FMCG environment that is noisy and refrigerated in some areas, manufacturing short shelf-life products where hygiene standards are critical. The shift pattern is 4 on 4 off, 07:00 – 19:00 and 19:00 – 07:00.

What will you be doing as a Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer?

You will optimize machinery output and product quality, minimize plant downtime through preventative maintenance, respond efficiently to breakdowns in specific factory areas, and promote a safe, hygienic working environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead your team during breakdowns using your skills and experience.
  • Carry out maintenance according to schedule and implement corrective actions.
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns, identify root causes, and suggest improvements to prevent recurrence.
  • Communicate breakdowns to the Engineering Shift Manager / Principal Engineer and collaborate with operations to minimize disruption.
  • Follow engineering standards and hygiene practices.
  • Ensure activities comply with health and safety regulations, reporting issues to management.
  • Report health, safety, animal welfare, and environmental issues timely.
  • Follow escalation procedures to minimize plant downtime.
  • Apply basic problem-solving techniques to identify root causes.
  • Raise stock and non-stock requests as needed.
  • Use the CMMS system for spare parts management and job logging.
What you’ll need to be successful:
  • Advanced Apprenticeship in mechanical or electrical disciplines (BTEC, NVQ Level 3, HNC, HND).
  • Experience in food manufacturing preferred.
  • Familiarity with process machinery and fault-finding skills.
  • Mechanical fitting skills.
  • Ability to mentor others.
  • Self-motivated, able to multitask and work under time constraints.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for engineering and continuous improvement.
  • Keen to make a difference with proactive, can-do attitude.
  • Desirable: welding, machining, fabrication, refrigeration, electrical qualifications, PLCs, VSDs, control systems.
