Job summary

Biffa is hiring a Multi-Skilled Operator for our Polymers manufacturing site in Redcar. You will operate and monitor production equipment, ensure product quality, and contribute to continuous improvement while working within a safety-focused shift team.

The role involves operating across multiple processes, maintaining housekeeping, and supporting health, safety and environmental standards. Training and progression opportunities are provided as part of our supportive team.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in manufacturing/production is desirable but not essential.
• A strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate and monitor production machinery and plant equipment.
• Operate a forklift as part of duties (training/certification provided where required).
• Carry out routine checks and identify faults or issues.
• Report problems to Shift Supervisor promptly.
• Maintain high housekeeping standards and safe work areas.
• Support continuous improvement to reduce waste and improve productivity.
• Collaborate with colleagues to achieve safety, quality and asset performance goals.

• £13.05 (£27,300 per annum) + 5% shift allowance
• 4 days, 4 off, 4 nights, 4 off (8am - 8pm / 8pm - 8am)

As a Multi-Skilled Operator at our Biffa Polymers manufacturing site in Redcar, you'll play a key role in the safe and efficient operation of our recycling and manufacturing processes. You'll be responsible for operating and monitoring a range of production equipment, ensuring quality standards are met, and contributing to continuous improvement across the site.

Working as part of a supportive shift team, you'll help maintain a safe, productive, and high-performing workplace while ensuring our operations continue to deliver high-quality recycled polymer products.

Your core responsibilities

• Safely operate and monitor a variety of production machinery and plant equipment.
• Operate a forklift as part of your duties (full training and certification provided where required).
• Carry out routine operational checks and identify equipment faults or process issues.
• Communicate problems, breakdowns, or production obstacles promptly to your Shift Supervisor.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and ensure work areas remain clean, safe, and organised.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, improve productivity, and maximise operational efficiency.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve excellence in health and safety, product quality, asset performance, and employee engagement.
• Comply with all company policies, procedures, and health and safety requirements.
• Be flexible to work across different production areas as business needs require.

Our essential requirements

• Previous experience in a manufacturing, production, processing, recycling, or industrial environment is desirable but not essential.
• A positive attitude with a willingness to learn new skills and work across multiple processes.
• A strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• The ability to follow work instructions and standard operating procedures.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
• Basic numeracy and literacy skills to complete production documentation and quality checks.
• Good attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality products.
• A forklift licence is advantageous but not essential, as full training will be provided.
• Flexibility to work a rotating shift pattern, including days and nights where applicable.
• Physically capable of working in a manufacturing environment, including standing for extended periods and carrying out manual handling activities where required.
