Job summary

Mears Group in Brighton is seeking a Multi Skilled Operative to perform a broad range of domestic repairs in tenanted social housing properties. You will handle carpentry, plastering, tiling, decorating and light plumbing to deliver high-quality repairs in occupied homes.

Candidates must have multi-trade experience and a full UK driving licence, with the ability to work independently and safely. This is a full-time role, 42.5 hours weekly, offering up to £40,000 per year plus a company van and

• Proven experience in domestic repairs across multiple trades (carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, decorating).
• Full UK driving licence.

• Strong fault-finding and safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Carry out day-to-day responsive repairs across tenanted social housing properties.
• Replace or repair skirting boards, architraves, and internal door frames.
• Install and adjust kitchen units, worktops, and cupboard doors.
• Repair internal doors, handles, locks and hinges.
• Identify and fix minor plumbing issues such as leaks and blocked sinks.
• Carry out patch plastering and make good damaged walls/ceilings.
• Complete wall and floor tiling repairs, including grouting and sealing.
• Paint and decorate to a professional finish after repairs.
• Ensure repairs are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
• Work in occupied homes with sensitivity to residents’ needs and privacy.

Multi Skilled Operative

Contract: Full Time Permanent

Salary up to £40,000 per annum, plus, company van & fuel card

42.5 hours per week (8-5 Monday- Friday)

We are looking for a Multi Skilled Operative to join our team in Brighton you will be carrying out a variety of property maintenance tasks, including carpentry, painting, plastering, brickwork, tiling, silicone/mastic works, groundworks and minor plumbing in Void properties. The role requires a delivering high-quality repairs and installations across domestic properties.

We’re looking for someone reliable, skilled across multiple trades, and passionate about getting the job done right the first time.

Duties:

• Carry out day-to-day responsive repairs across tenanted social housing properties
• Replacing or repairing skirting boards, architraves, and internal door frames
• Installing and adjusting kitchen units, worktops, and cupboard doors
• Repairing or replacing internal doors, handles, locks, and hinges
• Identifying and fixing minor plumbing issues such as leaks, dripping taps, and blocked sinks
• Carrying out patch plastering and making good, damaged walls or ceilings
• Completing wall and floor tiling repairs, including grouting and sealing
• Painting and decorating to a professional finish following repair works
• Ensuring all repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard
• Working in occupied properties with sensitivity to residents’ needs and privacy
• Reporting any further works, safeguarding concerns, or property issues beyond scope
• Deliver excellent customer service while working in residents’ homes
• Accurately record job details, materials used, and completion notes using handheld devices or job sheets
• Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle in good working order
• Manage daily workload efficiently to meet service level targets

Role Criteria:

• Proven experience in domestic repairs and maintenance across multiple trades (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, decorating)
• Full UK driving licence
• Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
• Excellent customer service skills, with experience working in occupied homes
• Good understanding of health and safety regulations and safe working practices
• Ability to use handheld devices or job management systems to record work
