Job summary

ESNEFT in Colchester General Hospital seeks a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Steriliser Technician (Band 5) for a permanent full-time role. The post requires shift work, including Saturdays and on-call duty, to maintain and service sterilisation and related plant and equipment.

The role covers repair, maintenance and installation of electrical, mechanical and building services, with duties spanning Planned Preventative Maintenance, fault-finding and new works. Strong HTM qualifications are desirable.

Qualifications

• Completed a recognised trade apprenticeship and hold a related qualification (BTEC/HNC/Diploma or City & Guilds).
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience with Porous Loads, unwrapped instruments and utensils, Washer Disinfectors, Sonic Baths and Flexible Endoscope Washers.
• Has HTM Competent Person and HTM Authorised Persons training; Infection Control awareness.

Responsibilities

• Repair, maintenance and installation of plant, equipment, systems and building structure/fabric across Trust properties.
• Carrying out Planned Preventative Maintenance, testing, calibration, fault finding, emergency response, defect correction and new works.

Job overview

The East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) are looking for a talented and motivated Multi-Skilled Maintenance
Steriliser Technician to join the Engineering Team at its Colchester Hospital site.

The successful candidate will provide effective high quality service in respect to the undertaking of maintenance; repairs; and
modifications to a wide range of Electrical/Mechanical/Building Services within the Trust

Please note this post requires shift working, including Saturdays and on-call rota participation.

The post holder will be responsible for carrying out the repair, maintenance and installation of plant, equipment, systems and building
structure/fabric associated with all Trust properties. This will consist of Planned Preventative Maintenance, testing and calibration, fault
finding, emergency response, defect correction and new works.

Qualifications

• To have completed a recognised trade apprenticeship and hold a BTEC/HNC/Diploma in Building or Engineering or equivalent City & Guilds qualification with intermediate practical and theoretical knowledge acquired through a diploma plus significant equivalent experience in their specialist field.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience of Porous Loads; unwrapped instrument and Utensils ; Washer Disinfectors, Sonic Baths and Flexible Endoscope Washers.
• Accredited HTM Competent Person Course.
• Infection Control Awareness Training.
• Accredited HTM Authorised Persons course

Knowledge and Skills

• Must be able to demonstrate suitable post apprenticeship experience in non-routine maintenance of complex engineering plant and equipment with a broad understanding of other trade disciplines.
• Experience of liaison with and supervising building and engineering contractors.
• Previous experience in a hospital maintenance environment with exposure to all building and engineering aspects.
• Knowledge of statutory legislation and relevant Codes of Practice.
• Knowledge of Health & Safety Policy and Safe Working Procedures.
• Fire Training.
