Job summary

East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) is seeking a Multi-Skilled Electrical Technician for Colchester General Hospital. The role is Band 5 with full-time hours (37.5 pw) and a salary of £32,073–£39,043 per year.

You will service, repair and install plant and electrical systems, participate in on-call rotas and contribute to hospital maintenance across Trust properties. A recognised apprenticeship and HTM qualifications are required, with on-site duties across multiple shifts.

Job overview

The East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) are looking for a talented and motivated Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician with Electrical bias to join the Engineering Team at its Colchester Hospital site.

You will be responsible for carrying out the repair, maintenance and installation of plant, equipment, systems and building structure/fabric associated with all Trust properties. This will consist of Planned Preventative Maintenance, testing and calibration, fault finding, emergency response, defect correction and new works.

If you have completed a recognised trade apprenticeship and hold a BTEC HNC/diploma in Engineering or equivalent City and Guilds qualification with proven experience in non-routine maintenance of complex engineering plant and equipment,and are looking for a challenging and varied role, we look forward to hearing from you.

You will be required to participate in the emergency out-of-hours on-call rota and work a split-shift pattern, details of which will be discussed further at interview.

Main duties of the job

• Identify, arrange procurement and replacement of defective component parts and equipment on major items of engineering plant, cost effectively to the value of £2k.
• You must have a multi-skilled approach to a wide range of work of other trades outside their core trade skills, and be able to undertake work in a safe and effective manner, complying with all relevant safety legislation and Estates Department safe working procedures on all works undertaken.
• Carry out the full range of maintenance duties specific to their core trade as required, including non-routine, planned, corrective and breakdown maintenance tasks, this includes work on, or around, bedhead services and building fabric in wards and departments which will involve incidental patient contact

Person specification

Qualifications

• To have completed a recognised trade apprenticeship and hold a BTEC or equivalent City & Guilds/Level 3 qualification with intermediate practical
• Accredited HTM Authorised Person Course.
• Infection Control Awareness Training.

Knowledge and Skills

• Theoretical knowledge acquired through a diploma plus significant equivalent experience in their specialist field.
• Knowledge of statutory legislation and relevant Codes of Practice
• Knowledge of Health & Safety Policy and Safe Working Procedures

Experience

• Must be able to demonstrate suitable post apprenticeship experience in non-routine maintenance of complex engineering plant and equipment with a broad understanding of other trade disciplines.
• Experience of liaison with and supervising building and engineering contractors.
• Previous experience in a hospital maintenance environment with exposure to all building and engineering aspects.
