Job summary

THG Labs in Frome is seeking a proactive Maintenance Engineer with strong electrical expertise and solid mechanical understanding. You will maintain, diagnose and repair a wide range of production and site equipment to maximise uptime.

The role requires time-served electrical maintenance qualifications and experience in a manufacturing environment, with a focus on safety and continuous improvement. A competitive benefits package is included.

Qualifications

• Time-served apprenticeship or relevant engineering qualification in Electrical or Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineering.
• Experience in a manufacturing, FMCG, or industrial setting.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic abilities with PLCs, sensors and drives.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventive maintenance and reactive maintenance on electrical and mechanical systems.
• Diagnose faults and perform repairs following safety standards and guidelines.
• Support continuous improvement to improve reliability and performance.
• Maintain maintenance records using the CMMS system.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
• Provide technical support and collaborate with production teams.

Location: THG Labs, Commerce park, Cornbrash, Frome BA11 2FN

Shift Pattern: Rotating shifts – 6am - 2:15pm / 2pm - 10:15pm, 8.15 hour a day, 41.25 hours per week

About the Role

We’re looking for a proactive and versatile Maintenance Engineer with strong electrical expertise and sound mechanical understanding to join our fast-paced engineering team. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a wide range of production and site equipment to ensure maximum operational efficiency and minimal downtime.

As a Multi-Skilled Engineer you will:

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on electrical and mechanical systems, including conveyors, motors, control panels, and automated machinery.
• Diagnose electrical faults and perform repairs in accordance with safety standards and manufacturer guidelines.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to engineering projects aimed at increasing equipment reliability and performance.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records using the company’s CMMS system.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant Health & Safety, environmental, and quality standards.
• Provide technical support and collaborate closely with production and operations teams.

What skills and experience do I need for this role?

• Time-served apprenticeship or relevant engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 / ONC / HNC) in Electrical or Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineering.
• Proven experience in a similar maintenance engineering role within a manufacturing, FMCG, or industrial environment.
• Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills, with a solid understanding of PLCs, sensors, drives, and control systems.
• Basic mechanical skills (e.g., bearings, pneumatics, hydraulics).
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
• Excellent problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
• Flexible, team-oriented, and capable of working independently under pressure.

Desirable:

• 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations.
• Experience with automated systems, robotics, or packaging machinery.
• Knowledge of lean maintenance or continuous improvement practices (TPM, Kaizen, 5S).
