Job summary

Omega Plc in Erith is seeking a skilled Shift Engineer to join our food manufacturing site on a continental shift pattern (5am–5pm, 5pm–5am). You will carry out planned and reactive maintenance on manufacturing and packaging equipment to keep downtime to a minimum while maintaining safety and quality standards.

The role requires a Level 3 engineering qualification and strong fault‑finding skills across mechanical and electrical systems.

Qualifications

• Level 3 qualification in engineering or equivalent.
• Proven experience in manufacturing environment (food/FMCG) preferred.
• Strong fault‑finding skills across mechanical and electrical systems.
• Proactive, team‑focused with good communication.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on manufacturing and packaging equipment.
• Quickly diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults to minimise downtime.
• Support production teams to ensure machinery operates at optimal efficiency.
• Complete preventative maintenance tasks in line with site schedules.
• Ensure all work complies with health & safety, food safety and quality standards.
• Accurately record maintenance activities and contribute to continuous improvement.
• Assist with equipment improvements, root cause analysis and minor projects.
• Work effectively on a continental shift pattern with clear handovers between shifts.

Shift Engineer

Shift Engineer Circa £52,000 Continental Shift Pattern (5am - 5pm, 5pm - 5am) Erith We are looking for a skilled and proactive Shift Engineer to join a well-established food manufacturing site in Erith. Operating within a high-volume, fast-paced environment, you'll play a key role in ensuring production equipment runs safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys hands‑on problem‑solving and working as part of a collaborative shift team.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on manufacturing and packaging equipment
• Quickly diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults to minimise downtime
• Support production teams to ensure machinery operates at optimal efficiency
• Complete preventative maintenance tasks in line with site schedules
• Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with health & safety, food safety, and quality standards
• Accurately record maintenance activities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
• Assist with equipment improvements, breakdown root cause analysis, and minor project work
• Work effectively on a continental shift pattern, handing over clearly between shifts

Qualifications & Experience - Shift Engineer

• Level 3 qualification in an engineering discipline (or equivalent)
• Proven experience working within a manufacturing environment (food, FMCG, or similar highly regulated sector preferred)
• Strong fault‑finding skills across mechanical and/or electrical systems
• A proactive, team‑focused approach with good communication skills
• Ability to work calmly under pressure and make sound engineering decisions
