North Cheshire and Mersey NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting for a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Craftsperson – Mechanical (NHS AfC Band 5). The role focuses on reactive and planned maintenance of complex mechanical plant, HVAC, plumbing and associated systems across the estate.

You will join a dynamic estates team, with training opportunities and participation in an on-call rota. Based at Halton Hospital, the post may require coverage across Trust sites.

Qualifications

  • Accredited, apprentice trained and/or extensive experience in a mechanical trade (ideally plumbing).
  • In-depth knowledge of HTMs, ACOPs and Health & Safety at Work Act.
  • Experience of working in a hospital environment.
  • CPD with current legislative training certification updates.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake reactive and planned maintenance, service, test and inspection of complex engineering plant and equipment.
  • Maintain air handling units, plumbing works including drainage and sewerage systems, heating and ventilation, hot and cold water systems.
  • Work with CAFM and other specialist software; join on-call rota with additional payments.
  • Based at Halton Hospital; may cover all Trust sites as required.

Job overview

North Cheshire and Mersey NHS Foundation Trust are seeking to recruit a suitably experienced Multi-Skilled Maintenance Craftsperson – Mechanical (Fitter), to join our estates department.

The post holder should posses mechanically bias (HVAC / plumbing) skills, knowledge and experience and work as part of the estates team to deliver a comprehensive estates maintenance service, ensuring compliance with Trust standards, procedures, and legislation across the estate portfolio.

You will join a dynamic multidiscipline team, operating in a busy, fast-paced environment that provides a diverse workload, you will have the support and opportunities through training to develop new skills to enhance your personal development.

Main duties of the job

To undertake reactive and planned maintenance, service, test and inspection of complex engineering plant and equipment, servicing of air handling units, plumbing works including drainage and sewerage systems, heating and ventilation, hot and cold water systems and other mechanical systems, ensuring they are maintained to a high standard and in compliance with statutory regulations.

You will work alongside other trades to deliver a quality service using CAFM and other specialist software systems. You will join our out-of-hours on call service for which you will receive additional payments. The post will be based at Halton Hospital, but there is expectation for the role to cover all Trust sites where required.

Experience
  • Accredited, apprentice trained and/or extensive experience in a mechanical trade - ideally plumbing
  • In depth knowledge and experience of the Health Technical Memoranda, ACOPs, Health and Safety at Work Act and all relevant legislation.
  • Experience of working in hospital environment.
Qualifications
  • BTEC, ONC, City & Guilds in a Mechanical discipline acquired through an accredited training provider achieved via a recognised apprenticeship
  • NVQ Level 4 and / or equivalent experience plus relevant additional training
  • Authorised Persons (AP) in one or more Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) with relevant Level 5 qualification signed off by Trust Authorising Engineer
  • Evidence of CPD with current legislative training certification updates
  • AP status to be maintained through CPD and 3 yearly accreditation
  • NEBOSH, IOSHH or equivalent
  • Work in accordance with various Technical Standards
  • Ability to work without supervision
  • Ability to supervise contractors and other Trust staff
  • Ability to write formal risk assessments as part of project management reports
  • Ability to complete management reports and financial reports for project management on small projects
