Multi‑Skilled Laboratory Technician

Location: Caledonian Cheese Company, Stranraer, Dumfries and Galloway, DG9 7DA
Working Hours: Full‑time. 1785 hours annually

About the Role

We’re looking for a proactive and detail‑oriented Multi‑Skilled Laboratory Technician to join our Quality team at Caledonian Cheese Company. This is a hands‑on role in a fast‑paced food production environment, ideal for someone with a background in lab work or food science, or someone eager to learn and grow in this field. You’ll play a key role in ensuring our products meet the highest standards of safety and quality, working with both in‑house and external testing processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Calibrate and monitor laboratory and factory equipment
  • Collect and prepare samples for microbiological and chemical testing
  • Submit samples to external labs and download results
  • Identify and report any out‑of‑specification results to management
  • Conduct environmental and plant hygiene swabbing
  • Perform chemical testing
  • Maintain accurate records and spreadsheets
  • Participate in internal and external proficiency testing
  • Ensure all work complies with food safety, hygiene, and quality standards
  • Keep the lab clean, organised, and audit‑ready
What We’re Looking For
  • A keen eye for detail and strong organisational skills
  • Confident using Microsoft Excel and other basic computer applications
  • Clear communicator, comfortable sharing information across teams
  • Able to follow procedures accurately and work to high standards
  • Some lab or food industry experience is helpful, but not essential
  • Shift and weekend work involved, with shifts up to 10 hours, starting at 6:00 AM
