First Military Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer in Leeds to join an experienced engineering team at a high-volume site.

The role focuses on maintaining plant machinery, utilities and site equipment, with hands-on fault finding and problem-solving for January 2027 start. Ex-military candidates are encouraged, though all will be considered.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical engineering experience with electrical fault-finding skills.
• Experience maintaining industrial or production machinery.

Responsabilités

• Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs on plant machinery and site equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical faults to minimise downtime.
• Work on PLC-controlled systems, 3-phase motors, boilers, bearings, conveyors and associated machinery.
• Complete routine inspections and maintenance checks.
• Support production teams to ensure equipment reliability and performance.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
• Follow Health & Safety procedures and safe systems of work.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and engineering projects.
• Respond to breakdowns and call-outs when required.
• Help maintain a safe, clean and organised working environment.

Overview:

First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer on behalf of one of our clients.

The successful candidate will join an experienced engineering team at a busy, high-volume manufacturing site in Leeds, keeping plant machinery, utilities and site equipment running safely and efficiently through planned and reactive maintenance. This is a hands‑on role for an engineer who enjoys problem‑solving and fault finding, and the client is looking to have the right person in post for a January 2027 start.

Our client encourages applications from ex‑military personnel, particularly former Navy Marine Engineers and Armed Forces personnel with strong mechanical and electrical experience; however, all candidates will be given due consideration.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Skills and Qualifications:

• Strong mechanical engineering experience, supported by good electrical fault‑finding skills
• Previous experience maintaining and repairing industrial or production machinery
• A methodical approach to diagnosing faults and implementing effective solutions
• Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to breakdowns
• A flexible, team‑focused attitude with a willingness to support operational requirements
• Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work with colleagues across all departments
• A strong commitment to Health & Safety and continuous improvement

Desirable:

• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
• Experience with PLC-controlled equipment and automated systems
• Background in manufacturing, FMCG, production or industrial environments
• Engineering experience gained within the Armed Forces or another highly disciplined technical environment
