Job summary

Michael Page is seeking a Multi Skilled Engineer for a permanent role in the Peterborough area. You will perform planned maintenance, respond to breakdowns, and improve plant reliability while maintaining high health and safety standards.

The role requires strong mechanical and fault-finding skills with CMMS experience and welding knowledge. You will work with operations and maintenance teams, supervise contractors, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Minimum NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 5+ years of maintenance experience in heavy industrial environments.
• Strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding skills.
• Electrical maintenance knowledge advantageous.
• Ideally certified in PPE and safety (PUWER, Working at Height) and welding qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance in line with the CMMS system.
• Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime.
• Diagnose mechanical faults and perform corrective maintenance safely.
• Complete maintenance documentation accurately in the CMMS.
• Monitor critical spare parts and support stock control requirements.
• Suggest and implement plant and process improvements.
• Support audits and RAMS compliance.
• Supervise contractors and ensure adherence to site safety procedures.
• Collaborate with operations to improve reliability and performance.
• Promote and maintain health, safety and environmental compliance.

Job description

As a Multi Skilled Engineer, you will be responsible for carrying out planned preventative maintenance, responding to breakdowns, and ensuring plant equipment operates safely and efficiently. You will play a key role in improving reliability, minimising downtime, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and maintaining the highest health and safety standards

Client Details

Our client is a market-leading business operating a specialist incinerator bottom ash processing facility, recovering valuable metals and supporting the circular economy through recycling and aggregates production. The site processes up to 250,000 tonnes per annum and operates within a safety-focused, performance-driven manufacturing environment.

Description

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance activities in line with the CMMS maintenance system.
• Respond quickly and effectively to equipment breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
• Diagnose mechanical faults and complete corrective maintenance activities safely.
• Complete maintenance documentation accurately within the CMMS system.
• Monitor critical spare parts and support stock control requirements.
• Suggest and implement plant and process improvements.
• Support audits and compliance activities.
• Supervise contractors and ensure adherence to site safety procedures and RAMS.
• Collaborate closely with operations and maintenance teams to improve plant reliability and performance.
• Promote and maintain the highest standards of health, safety and environmental compliance.

Profile

• Minimum NVQ Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven maintenance experience within aggregates, recycling, construction materials, heavy manufacturing or similar industrial environments.
• Strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding skills.
• Electrical maintenance knowledge would be advantageous.
• At least 5 years' welding experience, including Oxy, MIG and TIG welding on heavy plant equipment.
• Experience using fabrication, welding, hand and power tools.
• Knowledge of maintenance best practices and planned preventative maintenance systems.
• Good understanding of relevant health and safety regulations, including PUWER and Working at Height.
• Strong problem-solving and diagnostic abilities.
• Excellent communication, organisation and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Relevant certifications such as Abrasive Wheels, Lifting & Slinging, Working at Height, IPAF, FLT, Telehandler or Confined Space would be beneficial.

Job Offer

• Salary circa £53,000, dependent on the level of experience.
• Permanent position in the Peteborough area.
